My work investigates the creation and illusion of light, depth, composition, and texture. In the spirit of the old masters, I am particularly focused on creating the illusion of light through the use of color. Through technical precision, my canvas seeks to give color identity to feeling. Inspired by the complexity of feeling and the beauty that ranges from contentment to vulnerability, I seek to capture such moments like a nervous stomach, an amazing meal, an embarrassing moment.
We all have such experiences, though many may choose not to express them. Some may seek to avoid such moments or unconsciously minimize their value. I find those moments important because they remove a layer of our personal shells; they leave us vulnerable. When extracted, vulnerability can be a mirror to awareness, growth, self-realization and connectedness.
Giving color expression to feeling is not novel. But an individual’s personal experience is novel to them. I seek to establish color links between the individual’s experience and the broader emotional spectrum by reorganizing color into something unfamiliar yet shared.
